The Seckenberg Museum
in Frankfurt is quite near the city centre and the university. The best way to
get there is by underground. Take the U6 or U7 and get out at Bockenheimer
Warte.

in Frankfurt ist nahe der Stadtmitte und der Universität. Am besten nimmt
man die U6 oder U7 und steigt dann an der Bockenheimer Warte aus.The museum has got a space and geology section. There you can do all sorts of activities such as watching a volcano erupt and look at a scale model of the solar system which has pictures and information about each planet. They also have a small amount of moon rock!
Das Museum hat eine geologische Abteilung, die auch Informationen über das All bietet. Dort kann man beobachten, wie ein Vulkan ausbricht. Es gibt auch ein Modell des Sonnensystems, das Bilder und Informationen über jeden Planeten zeigt. Man kann auch ein kleines Stück Mondstein betrachten.
The best part is the dinosaur exhibition. There is a Triceratops (right), which has its legs in the reptilian position, instead of how we now know they should be. One can also see a Tyrannosaurus, an Iguanadon (which is too upright) and many others including an Edmontosaurus where you can see a fossilised print of its skin. They have the leg of a Brachiosaur and of a Supersaurus (the biggest leg of a dinosaur ever found). One can touch the rib of a Brachiosaur and also a fossilised tree.
The museum features a large collection of fossils from the Eifel region of Germany and elsewhere. They have a great display about the geological history of our planet.
Although the museum has three floors, I only had time for the ground floor, where the dinosaurs are. The first and second floors feature other aspects of natural history.
Der beste Teil ist die Dinosaurierausstellung. Diese zeigt ein Triceratops (links), das die Beine so wie ein Reptil hat, statt so wie man heute weiß. Man kann ebenfalls ein Tyrannosaurus sehen, ein Iguanadon (welches zu aufrecht dargestellt ist) und viele anderen wie zum Beispiel ein Edmontosaurus, wo man einen Abdruck der Haut erkennen kann. Außerdem gibt es das Bein eines Brachiosaurus, und das eines Supersaurus (das Bein ist das größte, das je gefunden wurde). Man kann die Rippe eines Brachiosaurus und einen verkieselten Baumstamm berühren.
Das Museum zeigt ebenfalls eine menge Fossilien aus der Eifel und anderswo. Es gibt eine tolle Ausstellung über die geologische Vergangenheit unseres Planeten.
Obwohl das Museum drei Etagen hat, habe ich nur das Erdgeschoss gesehen, wo die Dinos sind. Die anderen Etagen stellen andere Tierarten dar.
The museum also shows a lot of fossilised marine creatures, such as a Plesiosaur and an Icthyosaur (right). They also have an exhibit with Trilobites, Ammonites, Belemnites and many others.
Das Museum hat viele versteinerte Seetiere, zum Beispiel ein Plesiosaurus und ein Icthyosaurus (links). Sie hatten auch eine Ausstellung mit Trilobiten, Ammoniten, Belemniten und vielen anderen.
